Sunderland gets what it voted for...

Of course,,you would turn down all the money,,for your principles!

I'm not the one who professes to be speaking for whats best for the country. OK things did'nt work out as he expected, and he did'nt get a plumb job leading the Brexit negotiations, but come on, he is not exactly on his uppers.

it might sound sensible to you.

But it isn't true.

There is a payment to be made to settle the final account when leaving.

it is not the purchase price of future goods and services.
Who calculates this final payment then?, is it the same crooked EU accountants who fiddled the books to allow a bankrupt Greece to join the EU when it was obvious that their economy didn't meet the minimum standards required for EU membership.

So was the price of my used car, which I agreed to pay. What's your point?

Back in December (2017 I think) the UK agreed a divorce settlement with Brussels. £39 billion. Didn't you know?
It was a provisional agreement contingent on any withdrawal deal being ratified by the British parliament.
If Mrs May promised the EU 39billion without parliaments consent then let the EU send the bailiffs round to her house.

Without Gina Miller's legal challenge, Parliament had no opinion, no input.
It was purely an executive decision.
It was the way the government wanted it.
It opposed Gina Miller's challenge and lost.

It is not a definite figure. It is an estimate of the final sum, payable over a number of years.

No it isnt.

Welcome back Himmie, how are you? :):)
Yes it is. And here is your breakdown.
The EU "divorce bill"
The latest estimate for the size of the UK’s ‘divorce bill’ with the EU is £39 billion (€42 billion).

This is based on calculations the UK and EU have agreed, although the final value may still change. On 11th December 2017, the Prime Minister confirmed that the UK and the EU have agreed “the scope of commitments, and methods for valuations and adjustments to those values.” The calculations are an estimate of the UK’s commitments to the EU, valued according to a set of agreed principles. The bill is made up of:

  • The UK’s contribution to EU annual budgets up to 2020;
  • Payment of outstanding commitments; and
  • Financing liabilities up to the end of 2020.
