Bathroom extractor fan buzzes but blades don't turn.

Does anyone know if this is more than likely a problem to do with the motor?

Its the motor that is buzzing.
Can you spin the fan blade?
It could be a jammed blade, or the motor spinning but not attached to the blade.

I've done a quick video to illustrate the problem. Whilst I was doing it, the fan started working... but very noisily!

Any ideas?

how old is it? What make? post a pic

quite likely clogged with dirt.

It's a Manrose fan. No idea how old though as I've just moved into the property.

it can be cleand, but best bet is to get a new, better one, with ball-bearing motor for low noise and more power.

I can't see the vid. How many wires can you see connected to it, and what colours are they? (it might have a timer)

JohnD.. Can you see this photo?

yes, yours is a timer fan. Not a prob, it cost a bit extra but will run-on after you turn out the bathroom light.

I have a link, but the same model is available cheaper from other suppliers under another name. I'm sure someone will have the cheaper link. It's a good one.

Look at the air throughput, electricity usage and db (noise) figures for this superior one, and compare it to the manrose (budget model)
(though your model may have been replaced now. The model number may be on a sticker on the inside of the cover.)

Thanks. So I need a completely new system? It’s not something I’d want to install myself tho.

Hardly a "system"

the fan is a replaceable device, it fixes to the wall with 2-4 screws and has a spigot that fits to the existing duct. The existing wires are connected to the terminals in the new fan.

An electrician can easily fit a new one for you. as it's in a bathroom you'd best use a qualified one who's a member of a Competent Person Scheme such as http://www.niceic.com/ (there are several)

I wouldn't have another manrose.

Greatly favoured by builders because they're cheap.
