I'm installing a wood burning stove and the collar is attached by three screws inside it. The question I have is how can screw the collar in if I'm fitting the stove pipe to the adapter poking out of the closure plate, slipping the collar on to the pipe and then sliding the stove into position. How can I access the internal screws if the pipe is fitted before the stove is positioned underneath?

The pipe I have is vitreous pipe and has to be cut to size. Do I have to screw the collar in as I'm going to be dealing with due cement anyway?

I have vitrius adjustable length on my range, the joint is dry sealed with a locking band flue cement cracks

Would there be an issue in screwing the collar to the stove from underneath by removing the throat plate temporarily?

Wot I do...
If I make a register plate I cut an inspection door alongside if there is space, great for getting the vacuum in too. If there isn't any space I drop the register plate, support it and then connect the solid pipe to the flexy- then lift it back up again. Not the easiest!
John :)

That's what our chimney sweep does and I have upmost respect for the naff jobs they must come across day to day!

Thanks for all the responses. I managed to remove the throat plate and screw the collar to the stove from underneath. All sealed up and drying ready for first small burn tomorrow.

I use a register plate adapter. You get 90mm of slip - enough to raise the vitreous, slide the stove in, and drop it back down again into the stove collar.

Hope you're registered to fit your stove or have found someone who is willing to sign it off for you....
