I've bought a new house and looking at switching to three phase due to the size of the ASHP I may need and to help with offsetting it with solar..

I also need to move the meter anyway due to renovations so kind of makes sense.

However are there any regulations (possibly new) that stipulate that the meter box needs to be on the front of the house..

I would like to put it on the rear, which means the tails could go through into the plant room.

(this is in North Yorkshire if that matters with DNOs)

Speak with the DNO. The supply cable is unlikely to be routed from the rear of the property.

I know it isnt, nor is the existing cable good enough, so a dig will be required to the joint at the end of my street.. outside the drive.. That wasnt my question though :)

No problem with it going to the back of the house. It could even go inside if you wanted to.
Be prepared for a nice charge!
It will help if you do the digging on your land and provide the ducting. (Must be DNO spec, not the corrugated stuff)

The price last time I looked was comparible with the move of the supply.

DNO spec ducting etc isnt a problem, I've a friend who does that exact job for the DNO :D - I've also a friend who is a site manager and reguarly is skipping that kind of stuff - I'm in no rush so can wait until he has a site clearance to finish and go bin dipping :D

dont really think getting the jointers onboard would be happening :D and would also make the metering a bit erm.. :D
