Hi there, after noticing a dripping leak from the oil burner chimney pipe, we had a flue liner put in the chimney (there was none)
The new flexible liner seems to be giving off a seriously strong smell, I should mention that our oil burner is inside our house in a room off the back kitchen.
The smell was so strong this evening I had yo open all windows, my eyes are stinging.
We had a similar liner put in the living room chimney for the log burner and now can't light it due to fumes..... we can't NOT put the boiler on??
Please help?
Will this smell go away?
Attached old black/new silver fittings photos

A liner is meant to be enclosed within the flue.

The joint onto the SS does not appear to be sealed.

Who the fook did that..??

Thanks for the feedback...so the stainless steel liner should have been put inside the original black piping?
Is it dangerous if this isn't done??

Please turn off your appliance immediately.

Who installed this liner?

I have a Co2 detector in the boiler room and there is nothing showing. The smell could be from the heat resistant silicone he used? or the liner itself??
The liner was installed by a plumber. He is coming back tomorrow - some helpful suggestions as to what I can say to him/ask him to fix without offending him and him walking off??

Thank you Terrywookfit, I'm going to ask him to put back the black enamel pipe or a new one, and have the liner just coming down to the bottom of the chimney. Now I just have to hope he will do it and not get p'd off with me.....

Post pics of the log burner...it sounds as though you may have similar ssues. Your plumber hasn't a clue and I'm not sure it's a good idea having him back.

Terrwookfit Thankyou for that booklet, also ventilation is a small window with an air vent on top.
Durhamplumber, good luck indeed!
Gasguru ill post photos of log burner tomorrow

So, he came back today. He said he couldn't smell anything, but it must be the rubber seals in the joints, took it apart removed them and put silicone in joints...saod that should fix it...... he wouldn't listen to me about putting the black enamel pipes on.

Smell is still there when oil burner kicks on.

Going to cut my losses, I feel so stressed... seriously no matter what I try to get repaired the workmen end up making a balls of it!
I'm not a 'local' so rely on colleagues recommendations for trades. It was difficult enough to source this guy to come out, no one else wanted to do it.

He could SHOULD have used the stainless steel flue pipe into the chimney .
An access door for flue cleaning would have been useful ..j I c.

What terminal is fitted on top of the flue?
