A letter published in Saturday's Daily Telegraph, from Devon businessman John Kirby...

SIR - I run and own two companies, one in the United States and one in Britain. We frequently ship products to and from countries all over the world under World Trade Organisation protocols, and experience no problems. The tariffs vary from zero to about 4 per cent.
We have to answer three questions. What the goods are; what we are charging for them; and what the country of origin is. It takes about two minutes to fill in the form on the internet when we book a shipment. All shipping agents provide this service. There are no delays.
I cannot understand why there is all this talk of chaos if we leave the EU without a deal.

There you have it, the truth from a real businessman, a man who makes money for our country. Not a LibLabCon politician, not an NHS manager, not Professor Cliff Edge of the BBC and not some message board know it all.

We are eagerly waiting for you to enlighten us with your superior knowledge SirGalahad

Go through my posts and links and you can avail yourself.

So tell me why if WTO rules are great why do countries sign FTA? Whilst you are at it can you tell me what happens when a country disagrees with our schedule at the WTO when we finally submit it?

If memory serves me correctly, the UK was one of the founders of the WTO.
Have you a vested interests in the EU? Do you get a subsidy for something?
The EU benefits ONE country above all others! The Mediterranean countries being bankrupt devalues the euro enabling Germany to flog their cars cheap around the world, if they still had the DM their exports would be extortionately overpriced!

Meanwhile in the real world...

Try ordering something from the US and the EU...

If for example you wish to import that magic carpet from the US that is apparently popular with quitters this year, the tariff is 8% plus VAT
(ever wondered why they have that (already paid) EU VAT box on tax returns?)

So check out the actual tariffs before spouting the usual quitter b ollox!

The wife orders quite a few things from the States, the tariff or customs duty is hit and miss

Can someone please remind me what the EU actually makes! What do they produce? What do they sell?
They are going to be renamed again in a couple of years and become the USoE, all MEMBER STATES will have their taxes collected and distributed from Brussels, the UK will lose its shires and have half a dozen regions or so as they have in Germany.
The French want Strasbourg to handle the international money, there was an interesting article from Mervin King recently on Facebook.

Sounds like the 'no deal' scenario alright :)

Actually it's usually down to the duty free limit and how it's 'creatively' shipped...
(£18 limit on import VAT and £120 limit on Customs Duty.)

As usual you soon revert to type and cannot answer even basic question about WTO or trade.

Nothing.
It's a trading bloc made up of (currently) 28 trading nations.
