I'm looking for some replacement locks for a property I'll be moving into shortly.

I've fitted ABS Avocet in a previous property and would be tempted to use these again, although I'm also quite tempted by Ultion. What are people's thoughts on these two options and is there anything better out there?

Also, with locks such as the above, is there much benefit to handles such as the Mila Supa Secure? I know these handles when coupled with a TS007 1-start lock effectively makes the security up to a 3-star rating, but is there much benefit when coupling the handles with a lock which is 3-star alone?

Thats a bit of an eye opener for the Ultion , seeing as lots portray it as the best on the market , clearly its not worth the extra....

I've got avocet cylinders. They work well and I've got a keyed alike versions so same key opens front and back doors. The keys are magnetic and I've read a couple of reports on the internet about how the magnetic effect can be affected by other items in your pocket which renders the key useless. I've also seen tools online that can pick avocet locks too. Ultion were offering £1000 or something if their locks were ever picked.

At the end of the day, the lock is a deterrent. Windows can be smashed, doors can be knocked down etc. If someone's determined to get into your house, they will. I've had a couple of family friends who've been robbed at gunpoint. One was entering her house, didn't check behind her and they forced their way in as she opened the door. Another had a break in during the night, they tied up the family at gunpoint and then took their time robbing the house.

I have 3* ABS Avocet fitted and I am very happy with them. As has been said, they can only really act as a deterrent though.

I was happy with my ABS Avocet before so I think I'll probably go with them. They're much cheaper than the Ultion which doesn't seem anywhere near as secure as they like to make out.

Does anyone have any view on security handles like the Mila Supa Secure which completely encase the cylinder - is there much benefit of these with a lock such as the Avocet which is designed to render the lock unusable should it be snapped?
