I'll be putting the plasterboard up without help so best not too big but I want to use 12.5mm rather than handiboard which is 9/9.5. Just a bathroom ceiling about 8' by 9'.

I shouldn't feel confused about this (and feel a bit stupid asking) but need some clarification! I'm right only the long edges are tapered am I not? So what are you meant to do to join the non tapered edges abutting each other?

I know about taping/joint compound the tapered edges.

Thanks!

Sorry, I don't know what you mean when you say to use the other side of the board?

I 'll probably use 1800x900 12.5 so am sure to have some non tapered edges butting up against each other.

He means don't use the tapered side, that way all the joins butt against each other, then you'd use the mesh tape over all the joins and skim the whole ceiling. The mesh helps to stop cracking at the joins.

I think woody is being facetious and saying turn it over and treat it like non tapered board. I know a couple of pros who don't like tapered edge. Personally I much prefer it as a DIYer. You can still use the paper tape on the short edges. You need to make sure they are well aligned so they need less filling. You'll get a very slight bulge (but way less a DIY skim job). Still worth the effort of using bigger board so you have less joins. If is slightly under 8' on the smaller dim you could have just 2 joints.

Thanks, Yes, it'd be good if I could get help putting it up to use bigger sheets. So, ok just have to tape/fill the flat joins the best I can.

I probably should've been clearer in my first post about not skimming the whole ceiling, I did mention using joint compound though (like easi-fill)

The board has two sides. Use the other side.

If you are not skimming, then you need to use longer boards so as to have not to have any end joints
