Hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction for a simple but reliable door access control system.

I currently have a wrought iron gate to my house which is just operated by a manual handle and latch ( no lock whatsoever ), I would like to upgrade this so the gate can only be opened by a button inside the house and also only by a keypad or fob when I get home...I would also need a button a few feet away from the gate on the inside for when I want to leave....so essentially two request to leave buttons.

So I was thinking of a weatherproof keypad that accepts a pin or fob to gain access combined with a weatherproof maglock for the gate, then on the inside of the house a request to leave button and also another one a few feet away from the gate ( so the second one would need to be weatherproof ) so i don't always have to go back into the house to open the gate.

A nice bonus would be a video intercom but not essential as i have a ring doorbell pro but if the wiring is nice and easy and the price is not ridiculous then this would be great.

I already have 240v power and Ethernet a few feet away from the gate, so if the system is able to run over Cat 5 that would be a massive bonus.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated :)

so the gate can only be opened by a button inside the house

If it is opened by a button in the house then strict rules about safety have to be complied with, this prevents people being injured by the gate.

If it is un-locked by a button in the house and then manually opened by a person at the gate then there are far fewer safety concerns.

Needs a cable to house or use a wireless button / receiver ... you will need a power supply with battery back up , powered from the 240v supply all housed in a weatherproof enclosure,

Bernard ....I don't think they are talking about a automated gate ...just a normal one with a mag lock ....!

Thanks yes I know all that I was really looking for recommendations on an easy to install kit and brand that people trust ?

Ideally connected over cat 5 / POE using nice simple IP technology that I understand :)

The mag lock fabrication is normally the worst part , we have just installed some keypads on some existing gates that had 90mm posts so we cut the box section and fitted flush mag locks

No such thing really it's what ever
A ..keypad you prefer
B .. type of gate
Post some pictures of the gate

Thanks

Is there a system that works over cat 5 only, so I don’t need to cut and splice lots of new cabling ?

Also you say just pick whichever keypad, lock you prefer but how would I know they can interface with each other ? Is there a standardised communication protocol I need to stick too ?

Thanks

Erm Cat5, you could look at BPT IP360, have one handset inside but also linked to your phone/tablet so whoever calls you can talk to them. Only issue it will cost you.

I've done a few DS-KV8102-IM Hikvision systemes, one directly wired with cat5 cabling and a cable for power for the lock and the other were there was only mains power at the gate which we used a power line adapter to send the data down the existing power cable.

They are a video system also with a card reader built in with the added advantage of being able to link to your phone with a app. So it will call your phone when called and you will have remote access to open the gate wherever you are.
