Rafter insulation

Bone1977

Hi my first post here.
I'm looking to to create space in the attic to make a temporary playroom. I want to insult the rafters and looking for abit of advice on do's and dont's.
More worried about ventilation and possibly causing mould etc.
Thanks

Bone1977, good evening.

Suggest you use the "Search Function" [top right of the page] and look for insulating [I am not being Insulting] loft rooms?

My advice is don't shove your kids into a bodged second storey without means of escape. All on here will be suspicious of any dodgy lofty.

:cautious: Building regulations approval is required for converting a loft into a habitable room. As others say, you need to consider means of escape in case fire as well as thermal insulation, ventilation, structural and other bldg. regs related matters. Best to have a Full Pans Submission prepared and approved by Building Control before starting any work on site in my opinion , unless you are are really sure about what you are doing ( presume you aren't or you wouldn't be asking on here :!: ).

As you say its a temporary play room and kids soon grow up and move on. I did my loft 30 years ago and basically put some side stud panelling up to create dwarf walls at the edges, sheeted everything out in 1000 gauge polythene. plaster boarded and skimmed. Now its just a storage space for junk. The roof is still standing, the kids are still alive, have left home, haven't been stabbed, run over, groomed, and building control have no knowledge.

What the f*** is that about ? The original query was about making a playroom in the loft and some of us on here like to give correct advice on building matters even if you don't.

Also further down the line when you come to sell, with a habitable space and no Building Control approval.
Wonder how many thousands of lofts are well finished storage spaces?
