Blocked drain - Samsung rsh1 American style fridge freezer

Hoping someone may be able to help.

We have inherited the problematic Samsung rsh1 American fridge freezer when we moved. It has had the blocked drain freezing issue.

So I took it apart Friday night and defrosted the element and the drain plug.

However water wasn't draining out the back, so I tried poking things down the hole, and I could feel an obstruction, no amount of boiling water or poking would dislodge the obstacle.

I have ended up having to put it all back together knowing full well it will soon fill up with ice again.

Unfortunately at present obtaining a new fridge freezer is not an option due to finances.

The drain is odd where it has 3x 90 degree bends, an s shape directly under the drain and then another bend to the evaporator.

This drain seems to be moulded as part of the fridge.

Can anyone offer some advise please.

You could try spirits of salt, if you can buy it, but be VERY VERY careful ,gloves,goggles etc.

try poking up from underneath.

It's usually a pea or mouldy food scraps, which will usually rot and can be dislodged.

If it is ice you will have to turn off the appliance for long enough to defrost fully.

If it is a small object such as a bit of plastic, it will not be affected by water or chemicals.

Since the pipe carries distilled water from frost, it will not be limescale so an acid will not attack it (e.g. spirits of salts)

If it's a frost free then it's probably frozen solid and you will have to unplug it and leave the doors open for 24 hours or until it stops dripping inside and out, whichever is the longer. Boiling water does not flow through a blocked pipe.

Thanks did try poking from the other end but no budging.

The boiling water was poured over the course of 2 hiursi would have thought that would have been enough to dislodge the ice.

The tray around the hole looked like it was rust, but I couldn't see anything that was rusty. Gave it a good scrub.

Will run down the fridge and freezer and leave it off and open for 24 hours next time.

Fixed it,

The drip tray had rusted through, and restricted the flow, defrosted it over night, then took it apart, attacked it with a vacation hand steamer and now runs freely.
