I would like to install a handpump in my garden which is huge. I am a keen gardener and on water meter. With my routine my water bill is £180 for a quarter ladt summer.

Is this legal if i fix a handpump in my own land. How easy is it. Is there a device i could hire/ buy to dig upto the water level which could be upto 6 metre deep.

Any suggestions please.

Yes, you'll need to contact the environmental agency to see if you need a licence first, then get a hydraulic survey done to make sure there is water and it's suitable and at what depth. Then get someone out to bore and set a well.
Budget for 10k but depending on depth of water it could be much less or more.

What about catching all the rainwater?

My water is £80/month without a meter :(

Thats would be my suggestion. IBC's can be picked up off eBay cheap and are good for 1000litres of water. My parents have 6 of them dotted around there property all being filled off the various outbuilding roofs. they still have to use mains water occasionally for watering there Veg patch but only in the height of the summer when it really gets very dry.

Quick search of eBay and you can get cleaned out good conditions ones delivered for about £40-50 each
