I'm not sure that the title is right but I can't think of a better one.
I have a wooden front door with two lock, a 5 lever mortise that we use if we go out and a Yale (or cylinder night latch) which we use during the day. The advantages of the Yale is that it is quick and easy to open from inside without a key and if I go out and shut the door it locks without me turning a key.
I want to replace the door with a UPVC door which will be more draft proof etc. All the UPVC doors that I've seen had a single lock that needs a key to operate from inside or out.
Is there any sort of lock that will lock that will do what a yale type lock does and that will fit on a UPVC door.

The single locks which are fitted to upvc doors are usually multipoint locks, and they work by a 'gearbox'. You can get different types of gearbox/locks - the usual type allows you to open the door from both sides when the door is unlocked, and from neither side when locked. However, another option works like that from the inside, but is always 'locked' from the outside. IIRC the 'always locked from outside' type are called split lever.

Yes what you need is a Winkhaus AV2 lock, slam and go, I have one on my composite front door, you see this lock on doors with pole handles which are obviously fixed unlike lever/lever handles

Generally get the heritage style locks on composite doors. So you use a key only to unlock the door from outside and a thumbturn no key needed on the inside

Yes I like how it locks fully and engages the hooks as it slams shut and not just the latch like a lever pad/split spindle. Big chunky key required though to release the hooks on entry thumbturn inside though
