I thought I'd share a tip I have on the cleaning of stainless steal surfaces. I installed a stainless steal cooker and extractor hood in my kitchen last year and I have been surprised by the number of people that wanted to know how I kept it clean and without smudging, smears or water marks. Once you clean the surface, usually with warm soapy solution, apply a small amount of mineral oil to the surface, you will find not only does this give a very good finish but the oil also acts as an additional cleaner and will remove any remaining oil/fat splashes.

I use a proprietary stainless steel cleaner (comes in a trigger spray from the supermarket). I use that to clean all the muck off the steel. Then I use kitchen towel and olive oil. I reckon the oil must work as a solvent as the hard oily-splatters clean off more easily with a polishing of oil than anything else.

Good thing about using olive oil is that you usually have a bottle within reach of the hob anyway, seems to work just as well as baby oil (which my mum uses on hers).

Also Orange-Glo wipes are great for chrome kettles, toasters, bins etc
