Hi, i think it was the 'pre-heat' setting. It was set for a few hours prior to the proper time for it to come on. Changing it to the minimum has sorted the issue.

Ah yes I think a mate had similar issues with a hive system, he had it set to (for arguments sake) come on at 6am for when he got up, but it was coming on at about 4am to get to the temperature by 6. Glad it’s sorted

Boiler seems to be doing what it did prior to installing nest. Just coming on when it wants to.

So the above was a red herring then, or did your previous controls also have a pre-heat setting you weren't aware of?

Honestly don’t know stem.
All I know is that it works as intended now and is certainly better than the old system so it’s all good

The way the nest works , it leans all the time about how quickly your house heats up and say you want your house at 20 C at 7 AM the nest knows what the outside temp is and will calculate how long it will take to bring your house to that temp and will bring it on early, the alloted time changes with outside temperatures and existing temp within the room that the nest is located, it doesnt mean that if you set it at 20 c at 7 that the boiler will come on at 7

Yup... With these 'learning' stats, its the user that needs to 'learn'!

Adding a 16 C setting at 6am and moving the 21 C setting to 6:15am should also achieve the same, without having to alter the per heat, which you can then benefit from during the day/eve.
