Had a sink gully concreted over and a conservatory built, the drain is no longer used, air brick not far away and wall has been studded. We have now been left with a sewage smell in the underneath kitchen cupboard, pipe work been all cleaned and dishwasher plinths all take off to check for dead animals and dishwasher take out and checked for leaks. Not sure how a sink gully should be sealed off or if planing is needed. Conservatory company ignoring our emails sadly we have payed them not sure what action we should take now environmental health, building inspector or seven trent water any advice would be appreciated Richard

So you had a sink waste that came out from the house wall and discharged into a gully.
When your conservatory was built, I guess the gully was broken out and the soil pipe run left but concreted in, or the gully was left as is and concreted over?

So does the sink and dishwasher discharge into a new pipe somewhere else?

I guess you first need to work out whetherbitsvthe original gully plumbing or any new sink plumbing causing the problem.

Are you sure your dishwasher isnt syphoning water out of the sink trap?

Have you checked your sink overflow is connected.

I think they just concreted over it but not sure have email them to ask the question but no answer. Sink and dishwasher go out the same pipe in side a studded wall to an out side drain, sealed under the sink and sealed outside. Sink over flow built in and no smell, dishwasher is working fine and no smell. When they did the first lot of brick work the measurement were wrong, brick work not straight and not level had to get them to knock it down and and get them to get a builder in and not one of his have a go workers. Thanks Richard.

If the passage of return air has been blocked, then maybe you have syphoning occurring. Check that traps are full on sinks etc.

All traps are full and have put and extra trap in and these now go to another existing drain out side the conservatory. Thanks Richard

The old gully could have dried out and started working as a vent.
