Hi, Im looking to convert half of my detached garage into a study. I have confirmed with local Building Control and the Planning department that I do not require planning permission or building regs as it conforms with permitted development. Even so I want to build to regulations completely. Im happy with the procedure for insulating, ventilating, electrics and DPM for floor and walls but what im not sure about is Fire Regs in relation to partition between new room and garage space and the ceiling, do I need to use fire rated (pink) plasterboard or not? I imagine not for the ceiling as there is no room above due to it being a detached garage.

if there is a door into the garage then it probably needs to be a fire door with closer?
You'd want to prevent any fire in the garage traveling along any exposed flammable material into the house.

Yer I plan to use a upvc firedoor with closer. In regards to the plasterboard I understand that standard plasterboard is fire resistant but wasn't sure if I was required to have 30 min plus in the garage?

Ahh ok maybe it's a standard door then. Got a window and door guy coming to do it.

A door between a house and attached garage needs to be half hour fire resisting self closing and there has to be a minimum step up of 100mm from the garage floor to the house ground floor level.
The garage is detached.
