Hi all.

I am in the process of flagging a very large area for my dogs and because I wash this area down often I am wanting to put a drainage channel in so that the water is drained away.

The flagged area will be jet washed and then sprayed with petsafe disinfectant.

Is a soakaway ok for this purpose.

Hahah the wife wil be impressed.

The soakaway is a crate one that can hold 20 tonnes so was going to put that under the patio so it will be quite deep. Also the disenfectant used should help combat the smell as it kills the bacteria.

I have been using it around the garden and it does neutralize urine smell plus the garden gets a serious wash down twice a week which also helps.

The drainage gully will be the plastic ones you can buy for driveways and they will be two grates at either end with traps and soakaway under the patio.

I guess the real test will be to do it. Lol.

uhmm, sorry for my ignoranance,

But "a crate one that can hold 20 tonnes", isn't that going to be massive?

20tonnes of water is 20m3
So the crate is going to be about 1m x 4.5m x 4.5m or 2m x 3m x 3m

To me that seems very big for a back garden? Or is that normal?

It will be rated to have 20tons on top of it.

How many crates will you use?

Next time you go to a festival or something, pay a visit to one out the Tardises and bask in the ambiance of a lot of crap in even more disinfectant and see if it's an enjoyable aroma.

Crap and **** work differently when fermenting in the ground than when being washed over it.

Didn't think disinfectant was supposed to go into surface water disposal systems.

It will be one crate used which is what they use for driveways.

Yes 20 ton load on top is correct.

COREwater SoakAway/Attenuation Crate (800x500x540mm) + Filtration Membrane.

The whole flag area is about 3x4m so a good sized driveway so the above should do the job.

This was my issue but when you think of most gardens and chemicals. Everybody uses something at somepoint which goes into the ground.

The disinfectant is sprayed onto the surface and left to dry so very minimal will actually go down into the soakaway anyway. Pretty much same as someone using jeyes fluid to clean drive using a driveway drainage with soakaway i guess.

Ian and Kazdean,
Thanks for the clarification.
I miss-read 'hold 20t' as it being able to contain 20m3 of water rather than address 20t of downward weight upon it.
A 800x500x540mm crate is more normal than the 2m x 3m x 3m crate I was picturing when I first read your text.
:>
Thanks SFK
