Loss of internet what happens to heating?

Our Post Office broad band has gone down yet again, so the MiHome page will not work, as it needs wired lan to internet, I have an EE thing that keeps computers with wifi going, but not a clue if the TRV heads are doing their job or not as can't assess them. I think the info is stored in the heads, so they will still change temperatures on set times, but don't know.

The same would apply to any other internet connected thermostat, where is the info stored, will it carry on regardless or need internet?

Since the TRV heads connect to a hub with in turn connects to the LAN and the LAN is still working I can access one computer from another, I thought the system would still work, but the access page of the browser is greyed out.

Sorry Eric but anyone who relies on external ( not in the house ) systems to control their heating is being a bit short sighted.

( yes I do know that ther can be loss of gas and / or electricity and / or water supply )

I would agree, however on buying I was unaware it needed internet. I thought it would all work local. However it seems can't change anything without internet, and that was question, how many of these devices need internet even when used local?

so you buy an internet controlled system and you weren't informed that it needed internet to work

You were told that the system you cobbled together was schit.

Proper controls will not be reliant on the Web.

I have many items which are controlled by a computer, and some have the option of telemetry, but they don't need connection to internet to work, that is an extra, however in the last couple of years I have had two items which seem not to have local control, one was a camera, it had local control with a phone, but required internet to work with PC.

And now the Energenie MiHome the sockets and lights work with a simple remote control or with the hub, but the energy monitor and the TRV heads need to connect to hub, and in turn the hub connects to local LAN, I thought the download was simply to get the software, until internet failed and then it seems it needs internet to work, which seems a odd way to do things.

So is Energenie MiHome an odd one out, or are there other thermostats that need internet to work.

The current trend for IoT devices is for them to be controlled via The Cloud (aka a server farm somewhere). This is handy cos you don't need a local computer running 24/7 (much less of an issue now with Raspberrys, Arduinos etc) but a pain when you lose connection to The Cloud (most of these devices are built on the cheap so will either fail or default to inbuilt presets) or when the supplier goes bust, is taken over or decides to start charging for hosting.
I'll continue to avoid any of these toys that require internet connection to function.

All of the Internet controlled systems we supply are locally controlled first and foremost.

I use many cloud services, by it I sure as schit don't use ones that are essential And have to have a connection to work.

The cloud is a backup resource no more no less.
