Basement project

Hi all

Bit of advice. I am taking paternity leave over the coming 8 months and want to sort out cellar. There are three rooms, two of which I want to get up to living standard. Ceiling height is 6'6" roughly and the main room is roughly 12'6" square, with one window. It has been tanked before but I reckon it needs doing again. The second one is the old coal house that is 3'6 by 10'0 which I'd like to make a shower room/toilet for the 1st room, which will be a guest room. General advice etc welcome!

Plan is: take the old ceiling down in room 1, replace with board. Paint the walls with tanking slurry and baton/boars it out. Add pin spots instead of a pendant, box the utility meters into a cupboard. Add laminate flooring. Room has plugs and a radiator already but needs a new window ?

Shower room seems more complex. No proper floor down, no power, does have heating pipes but has a chute directly up to the street at the end. Thought about bricking this up with glass bricks and adding an extractor to use the natural ventilation available. It'll need a saniflow as well.

I can't do the plumbing or electrical so know that'll need some assistance, as will plastering the boards once they are up.

Any advice on cellars in general? This was the original kitchen for the servants in the house I believe so has been habitable.

Can't give you any advice on the cellar, but believe me from my DIY experience in the past 22 months, as soon as the boy could crawl and stand, it was impossible to get any DIY done! Get working on it in the first 6 months and enjoy your time with your new born!

We're got one already and she's 3 and a half Both of us are off so no worries there but thanks! In addition I've planned an escape window to satisfy building control,, directly into the void outside with a moveable grate into the street
