Garage Batten - flickering LED's now I have replaced Fluro.

With the power off I have tested the 4 blue wires. Only 1 is giving me a reading. I marked that blue as the switched live.

When I then traced those cables back they are both coming from the same cable..

The blue permanent live and earth from another unmarked cable are the only ones giving me a reading in Ohm mode.

I have found what I think is the cable to the other light in the room:

I connected the live feed to each brown wire in turn and checked to see if I was getting voltage at the next light in the garage. The last brown wire gave me 170 volts so I have labeled that as the second light cable.

Ignore voltage.

Test on continuity - ohms,Ω - with all wires disconnected and determine which wire at the switch is the same wire at the light, and then which wire at the second light is the same wire at the first.

There are three wires in each cable.
 
Can you talk me through that please? Sorry I had the power off and was testing each blue cable in turn using the multimeter set to Ohms - red lead to a blue and black lead to an earth in the twin and earth. That is probably totally wrong so I would appreciate a dummies guide.

So far the only thing I know for sure is the brown perm. live. Thanks for your patience! EFL
 
With the power OFF.

Meter on 'beep'.
With the switch swiched on, find out at the ceiling which brown and blue (from the same cable) have continuity between them, that is causes the meter to beep.
Have someone turn the switch off and on to be absolutely certain when the beep goes off and on.
This will likely be the blue with the tape.
Mark this cable "switch".

Then do the same from the second light. You will obviously have to connect the brown and blue together somehow - anyhow.
Mark this cable "other light"

Now you have switch cable and second light cable. The other two cables will be the other two cables in my diagram.

Connect as per my diagram. :)

Superb - So one set of blue and brown are giving me continuity - I do not have a beep on the meter but they registered in the low 0.100's. The others did not register at all.
I have marked that as the switch.

SUPERB clear instructions that were easy to follow. I have learned a lot in the last 24 hours and not given myself 240 or burned the house down.

Quick check. Am I OK linking everything with choc blocks or should I use something more substantial?

Chock blocks are fine.

If room - poke all the wires in so that they reach the other end, then all wires will be held by both screws.
