Had a chap round for new boiler quote, going from vented to system boiler.
Pump at the moment in airing cupboard, obviously with system pump within boiler ,so I asked him about the old pump in the airing cupboard and he said that we can leave it there, just disconnect the wires.
Will the water flow thru the old pump ok if it's not actually running? thanks

No it's not a pain to remove but obviously a piece of pipework will have to fill the gap, perhaps that's what u mean by pain to remove.

So it's dead simple to remove it, by a pain I mean the pumps been shoved behind the cylinder or otherwise inaccessible.

The old pump can cause a restriction , I would insist it is removed
The old pump would cause a restriction. I would insist it is removed.

When i had a new boiler a couple of years ago we put in a system boiler. The plumber took the old pump out specifically because it would cause an unnecessary restriction and it wasn't much effort to solder in a short section of pipe.

the inoperative pump and its valves is redundant, better off in a skip than your airing cupboard. or send it to china to be refurbished :)

I said COULD because not all pumps are the same some would some wouldn't, but best practice to remove pump and valves, and solder in a short piece of pipe, less chance of leakage

Hi Ian
It's a red Grundfos 15/50/60, no idea if impeller not wizzing round if flow would be restricted.

yes probably would , best advice is to have it totally removed, more chance of the valves leaking that anything else, its a very easy job to chop it out, I would insist on it

Took one out the other that had been left in place under floorboards.

Heating had worked OK but was leaking from the unions. Nice soggy ceiling.
