Hi all,

I've just bought a house and was planning to change the locks just to be on the safe side. The house has uPVC doors with Euro cylinder locks, so I've measure up the cylinder and it measures 50mm external and 40mm on the internal side. I can't find any cylinders of this size?? They are all the other way around - ie. 40mm internal and 50mm external. Both front and back doors are the same... These locks clearly do exist, because the doors have them in.

Anyone got any suggestions??

It won't matter what way round you put them

Andrew, as God said, with euro locks with key hole on both ends their is no inside or outside. They are designed to be used either orientation in door without issue.

So a 40/50mm is exactly the same lock as a 50/40mm lock.

This lot do good rated secure (if expensive) euro locks.

unless the inside has a thumbturn.

or the outside has a snap cut.

latter thinking is to have thumbturns on the inside in case of fire.

if you can't get one that's a perfect fit, get one that is within the handle or escutcheion on the outside. If it sticks out, it is easier to break.

There are some heavy armoured escutcheons, with the fixings on the inner face of the door, intended to protect the outer cylinder from attack.

A burglar is unlikely to try to force the door from the inside, so a sticking-out cylinder on the inside is not so serious.
