A few weeks back a section of my garage roof blew off, i have decided that im going to replace the full roof due to its poor condition.
It is approx 6m x 4m, with a single slope (i beleive its called a mono-pitch roof?)
I have already got enough 6x2 timber that i could use but need some advise as to whether it would be strong enough? Also if i went ahead and used the 6x2 would notching birds mouths into it weaken it to much, would using a packer under the gaps where it sits on the wall plate be an option?
Any advice appreciated

6x2 is a bit undersized for a 4m span, 8x2 would be better. That said you'll probably get away with it for a garage. Notching at the ends is fine. The maximum bending is in the middle (don't notch it there).

It may even be considered a flat roof as there isn't much of a slope to it, i think i will go ahead and use the 6 x 2, could truss clips be another option to fix them to the wall plate?

Not the worst idea by any means - helps keep the timbers in place if there's a storm, although you should also strap the wall plates down into the masonry.

Do the wall plates need to be bedded in cement or are the straps sufficient enough on their own?

Bedding in cement doesn't stick them down. There isn't any significant adhesion between wood and mortar. A mortar bed will block air gaps and give better support so is worth doing but its the wall straps that hold it down

Galvanised mild steel holding down straps to bldg. regs while you are on with it.

What spacing are you intending to do?

The existing is pretty far apart -I wouldnt think 6 x 2 would be ok for those centres

Think the existing are over 1 meter apart, im planning on doing them at 400 centres and put 2 rows of noggins in

If you are still going to use corrugated metal sheeting as the roof finish it should be supported on purlins on beams as necessary , not joists running parallel to the corrugations; or are you proposing roof joists supporting boarding under a waterproof membrane :?:

The plan is to batten and felt on top of the joists and then fix box profile metal sheets on top
