We're getting to the end of our renovation and are somewhat broken, hence we're reaching out to you wise, good people to save us from possible disaster!
We're replacing our front door and have found a reclaimed solid door, possibly meranti, which we would have to strip and repaint.
I know that solid wood front doors can warp, but given that this one is probably nearly 60 years old could this still happen or will it be all warped out? If you're minded to think the former would a veneered door for a couple of hundred quid pose problems too? Thank you.

if it's a panelled M&T door, you can rack it back to shape. You have to bend it a bit further than flat because it will spring back a bit.

A strong front door will probably need to be supported and have a bag of sand or a fat plumber stand on it. Internal doors can be done with one foot and one hand. it's easier with old doors because there is unlikely to be any functioning glue in the joints.

Tap in or renew any loose or missing wedges on the tenons once it is flat.

I'm sure that a solid old door will be better than modern veneered rubbish. Unless you are good at woodwork, ask around for a skilled person to fill in old lock mortices and big keyholes.

JohnD, that's helpful to know, thanks. Do you know if its age makes it less likely to warp in the future as it's not warped now?

Don't know. It will warp if it gets damp.
