I'm struggling to remove this tap as I need to replace it. The nut underneath is rusted and almost like wood. It does not allow the screw to grip and make any turns. I’ve also tried swivelling the tap from the top.

Any suggestions please?

If you can remove the pipework going to the bottom of the tap......
Could you get a box spanner or deep drive socket onto the back nut?
A pic could help!
John :)

Thanks John. Sorry was meant to attach pics with original post.

Update: the tap wrench did not work as the fitting had deteriorated and would not allow the socket to slip on. The yanking off was not fruitful either as the tap bolt was blowed towards the tap pipes. I ended up using the angle grinder to cut the copper pipes. I then wriggled the tap to loosen it slightly. This allowed me to lift it slightly from the top of the sink. This opening allowed me to run the grinder across the top of the tap too. This then released everything and allowed me to fit the new tap

Whole shooting match looks knackered to me, I'd have probably hit it with a large hammer!

Sorry for jumping in on an old thread...
I've just spent a couple of hours working free a backnut from a kitchen tap using Rothenberger tap spanners, 10" locking pliers, loads of WD40, and a lot of force. It was painful enough that I decided to replace the screw thread of the new tap fixing kit with a Stainless Steel one. It'd cost suppliers pennies to supply SS threads!
