Ferroli 701 - Pressure Relief Valve passing?

Dropping the pressure, re-charging the vessel would take a pro 10 mins :) Certainly no draining down...

Yep it sure would if the boiler had a drain point that was not on the DHW out....

I drained it anyway via this method BUT the boiler and in the end disconnected the Pressure Gauge which on the DHW in and connects to the EV.

So all sorted anyway.

Cheers

Bilabonic, I take it you are not serious, you are pulling a leg with your post above, right?
Pressure gauge on DHW side?
Been doing this task for last 25 years, yet to read such a profound clear
Have several customers with this boiler, yet to do an EV fix as you have detailed

A bit of free advice, look at the schematic diagram for optima 701, you might get better understanding of boiler components

How did you fix the erroneous reading pressure gauge

Very few boilers have drain points...there are other ways.

I meant the CH out side..lol
The erroneous PG reading would be down to the EV not having pressure i presume, if not i will replace it.

I read 100's if not thousands of electrical schematics dailt in my job as an industrial spark involving hundreds of differing sensors, gauges, inputs, relays, contactors, ac, dc motors, actuators, PLCs, circuits, limit switches, software over a massive area tracing faults, involving probably millions of wires and gas on a massive scale -blast furnaces, sinter plant, coke ovens (i'm dsear trained)...The list is endless tbh when fault finding!!!!

A VERY simple boiler schematic with a PCB and a few sensors is as simple/basic as it could possibly get tbh....

If i had read it i would of spotted the plainly obvious error of just replied 'do you not mean the CH out'....

I've been in my task for 28 years comprising of of a 4 year apprenticeship, ONC, HNC, HND, and degree in Electrical and electronic Engineering..9 year in training and still learning.

I was blown by your academic qualifications fella, but reading all your replies to effect repairs to a humble boiler like the Optima 701, while ian holds your hand, is causing me to scratch my head thinking where the short circuit is.

There is a term which you may be familiar with. RTFM

Or, I would have let the pressure down to zero by opening a vent on the radiator
Mind you, I would have cracked open the prv and fitted a replacement, if need arise, for fast resolution of problem

Exactly...drop the pressure with the PRV..., re-charge the vessel, stick a new AAV on, whip off the PRV head and clean the seat...job done.

Always learning...I'm currently trying to get to grips with C++ and Atmel timer interrupts...now that's a challange that makes you scratch your head

Yep, i was told NEVER to release pressure from the PRV as they fook up!!
I've been doing it for 20 years and never had one leak/jam due to it.

In the end i flushed all the system as well, ran mains through each rad individually then a mixture of some, the ****e i removed was unreal!!
Plus found a few weeping lock shields.

Why are you studying C++ and more so Atmels? Not done C++ (Computer Science) since my A levels before i started my apprenticeship...

Most of the programming i do is all software now on varying PLCs/SCADA, mostly Allen Bradley, siemens, we even have some Modicons from the 1960's :LOL:.

It's all working perfect now, pressure bang on, system cleaned, and snake oil added, plus fitted a nice little drain plug on HW.

Not bad for boiler i fitted myself in 1997 and was £300 at the time, it has had a new PRV and fan (fund out it runs @188v normal, 230v on demand) plus i had to fit a a couple of diodes and raley on the PCB board (few pence)...

As for gas we have mains and Coke Ovens gas at high pressure, countless burners, flame detectors, valves, TONNES of instrumentation that you also have to know...Voltages from 5v to 33Kv (i also do LV and HV switching of bus section/bus ties)..Then you have legal documents with EOP, permits to work etc etc....It;s absolutely endless................Oh plus networks....

Good luck with C++, its easy once you grasp it, it's just the start, coding has good money these days, know a few boys with me who have left and got into it.....

Cheers EVERYONE, i was a pain but i think this thread will be useful to other of funny as fook :LOL:

So now you are telling us that you actually installed the boiler but still tried to drain it from the DHW outlet :LOL::LOL:

I'm playing with a few ideas and Atmels AVR range has a good info base although serious coding of the timers/interrupts is hard to find.
You can also use the Arduino IDE (based on GNUs C++ compiler) and it can be configured to program the ATTiny range too so it's a a very low cost development setup.

Many years ago I spent several years in a software...felt like a life sentence...and ended up in the gas game but back in the 80s as an electronics student we used Assembler on Z80 and 6502, it was hard going with just keypads on the development boards.

Lol the old Z80's..Rock solid though...GNU is great
ll
.....
I used that that to alter firmware on my Bitcoin miners in 2001!
GPU days, had banks of them.....

NO...I stated before i made a mistake when typing CH out..lol

Bloody hell the 701 EV was opional, tbh i never thought it had one.......A have a few Ferroli's fitted. the latest ones are worse than mine, those clips!!
It's as if they hae gone backwards..I will sick to Baxi's tbh...Old school Duo-Tec..
A 5 year old could rpair one, not sure about the new 600 series?

Bilbonic, don't give up your day job is my advice to you fella
You may know your binary or Hex code but certainly not the expansion vessels:whistle:
