A looks like an O ring sliding fit b is difficult either 1/2" BSP male into the rad or washered union onto a nipple screwed into the rad. Either way you need a new valve unit as finding the correct O ring and then fitting it would be a pain.

Understood thanks. The current plan is to (hoping the lockshields work) drain and remove on Thursday and then remove it in its entirety and investigate.
When you say "Either way you need a new valve unit", do you believe such a thing would be available.
I take it you mean the whole part from 'A' to 'B', so in my case I would be best getting qty 4 if I can.

Thanks

My guess is it was supplied with the rad. Identifying the maker and contacting them for spares is what I would try first.

Tried an image search this might help identify the maker, my mistake I assumed it was part of the valve in my first post but it's only a tail piece by the look of it. Tried to post but it refused to work.

Looking promising. I have removed the radiator and brought it home, and dis-assembled all joints.
Both ends of leaky fittings are screw threaded and rely on 'O' rings which are pretty much shot to pieces and sitting on corroded surfaces.
In the middle is a large rubber 'penny' washer.
I will clean all the threads and use either PTFE or Hawk White. 'O' rings would be no good now as the surfaces are past it.
Any advice on the rubber washers would be appreciated, I am sure I can find large fibre ones.

Have a look for shower hose washers they are 1/2" you might need two as they are quite thin.

Thanks. I think I may have the washers sorted from eBay. I sourced some Neoprene, 12mm ID, 26mm OD by 1.5mm thick. The originals are quite thin.
All of the chrome parts are now screwed 'tight' into PTFE.

Below text added for INTEREST.

However..as a side issue..and not looking here for assistance.... to remove the radiator just meant simply closing the L/S valves, draining rad, unscrewing it from wall, giving it a small wiggle and lifting away from the 15mm pipe stubs coming out of the wall.
One L/S valve dripped a bit so a towel was left under it.
2 days later my friend rang to say he had water dripping through his kitchen ceiling.
There are 2 possibilities.
The towel was soaking as they hadn't checked it, so it is possible that water had run from there into the ceiling void.
Or the moving of the pipe stub has loosened a badly made joint inside the wall.
We quickly drained the sealed system to reduced pressure and water content, and the dripping stopped.
To be investigated....:)
