Oven ignition running continuously

A fault on the (Zanussi ZCG662GNC) cooker caused the fuse in the 13A plug to pop. Investigated and discovered an 'exploded' capacitor.

Everything seemed to be working, so not sure why a ('smoothing' ?) capacitor is needed.

Anyway, ordered replacement and fitted it. For reasons of inquisitiveness / investigative curiosity, some spades were removed and refitted.

Now, when the main oven is turned on, the ignition on both ovens starts clicking, and won't stop!

I've swapped the spaced terminals over thinking I may have put them back on the wrong terminals (not sure if the outputs from the module are not all the same), but it doesn't make any difference. What have I done?

Any suggestions ... please?

Is it auto ignition when you turn each burner on or a push button igniter?

The capacitor is not for smoothing but for use in building up the high voltage that is needed for the spark.

That was my first assumption, but when it's removed, the spark still works perfectly and did so for weeks before I got a replacement. Since then, the problem has arisen. (Removing it again doesn't make any difference).

It's push knob igniter. Although I can't be sure about the main oven - It's the main oven being turned on that causes the sparking continuously. The top oven needs the knob pressing, as do the burners.

My assumption is that the main oven also needed the knob pressing, but I can't be sure, the 'cook' isn't that informative.

According to the user manual you turn the oven control knob to a position marked with a star to give ignition & presumably the spark & once it lights turn it back to the required temp. so it seems like there is some sort of ignition component to the temperature regulator which I guess is either stuck closed or gone short circuit.

It's probably the ht lead or spark generator Normally ovens stop sparkling as soon as the oven burner lights, rectification or ionisation is the term manufacturers use.
Corrosion in the ht lead can cause this problem or a faulty spark generator .....if you work on a double oven range and put the wrong ht lead to the ovens ...unless they're both on it will spark continuously if it stops when both ovens are on ....the leads are in the wrong positions !

I know that I did initially put the HT leads in wrong positions, but since I've tried different all possibilities, and obviously put them in the correct position. I don't suppose that would've damaged anything(?)

I doubt you've tried all the positions ! 5x5x5x5x5x5 !!!!!!!! I don't have your confidence in your work you have !

I don't think it's obvious youVe put then in the correct positions at all ! Which is the correct position on the spark generator ? How do you know ?

I don't get how you come by the huge calculation - although I'd love to be able to just swap a few wires over, and it'd be done!

There are only three HT leads (the translucent ones). I've tried them in all positions.
