Identify this tree and is it deep rooted?

Spanish windlash if you are feeling daring and have some strong rope and a bar!

If it were mountain ash there should be flowers on it by now .
judging by the shiny grey bark, yours appears to be Ash which if it has been coppiced could have a larger root system than expected...I keep several old chainsaw chains to cut roots but pressure. wash the soil away first which give a clearer site of whats holding on...Hgv straps are handy for yanking em over like Andy’s linked to

I had to google that one, I think i’d be too scared of dropping the bar and knocking my nuts for 6 :LOL:

Definately doesn’t flower, it’s grown through a wall and taken some stones with it. I’ve got a chainsaw there but the chain is blunt so have been using a decent axe. I started cutting it down last year:

If you've got a stihl/cut off saw, you can get carbide blades for cutting roots, will cost more than the titan chainsaw though :censored:

I used a Sawzal last time I did anything like that and a pack of cheap blades (soil will blunt them).

You can get some fair sized branches down with it as well, I much prefer it to a chainsaw.

Just build the wall, some of the slabs and make a fire of the stump:idea:

This tree is tough!! The roots are unreal, like a solid goat lump of wood.

Burned it last night:

And dug some more this afternoon:

Brings back fond memories of a little sideline my dad & uncle used to do in the 60's/70's. In those days you could buy explosives from a good agricultural merchants, they used to bore down below the stump & blast it. This liquified the soil making it easier to pull out with a tractor.

They nearly killed me & my best mate when we were 6. I remember getting up from behind a wrecked LandRover with our ears & noses bleeding & my dad telling us not to tell our mum's :)

Half of it’s gone. I think now it must be 2 trees very close together. There wasn’t much going straight down. I dug round it and a bit under it then one of my sons pulled it over with a rope.
