Evening

My floorboards and joists have woodworm. I treated them a couple of years ago but have decided to take out the entire lot and replace all of it.

I needed some advice on fitting the new joists. The joists have come out of the wall quite neatly a couple had broken joists within the wall but got them out.

Fitting new ones can I cut them slightly shorter one end so it can slide them back in? Then re pug them?, or should I install joist hangers? should I put them in the same position where the holes in the wall are or offset them slightly.

Many Thanks

Lewis

Just use joist hangers, offset them and fit an extra one in to keep 400 centres.

I think I'd affix the joist hangers onto a treated softwood ledger (wall plate) and fix that to the wall with Rawlplugs or resin anchors before dropping the new joists in. Make sure that you use twist nails and fill every hole in the hangers with a nail
