I would like to raise my sitting room floor by 5-10mm before installing new underlay and carpet (to reduce the difference up to the hall).

The room is approx 4m x 5m, has floorboards with a 600mm cavity underneath; as there is no insulation and I thought I may be able to use something that may also reduce draughts and possibly add some insulation properties.

What are my option for raising the floor? Would a woodfibre underlay board be suitable?

Possibly one of these:

Both Q&A's on the Screwfix site suggest they are unsuitable for carpet.

A thicker conventional rubber underlay might help with insulation

If it's difficult to raise the overall floor by that small amount, an alternative is to use a suitable carpet cover strip at the door opening.

Blup

8x4 sheets of hardboard would easily raise height and are ideal for under carpets , rough side up .
Prevents uneven floor boards showing through .
