OK, so yes, I could buy an expensive alarm, but I have no money. So thinking of setting up a few DIY alarms about the house that can be turned on and off easily.

One idea (maybe too crazy) is to set up trip wires (not to hurt) that pull over bottles - just to make a lot of noise. Just for the side passage though, where nobody should be going.

Another, pressure pad alarms - I have some artificial grass outside the patio doors, so could put in a pressure pad alarm like this there (I have an out door electric socket so could keep it wired up) although not sure that is safe for outdoor use.

Or maybe i should just get a proper alarm? Need CCTV too. Still haven't decided what to get, probably asked here almost 2 years ago now!

actually, I have a Byron door bell that I have not installed yet. I bought it because they are really loud. They run on batteries. I could set this up .... but how to create a pressure pad? Hmmm.

Probably the best advice! Any tips? Every time I look at just get more confused. Cannot decide what I want or need.
Bungalow, 2 rear patio doors, back door on side, same as front door. Other side secure with smaller windows along passage that neighbour overlooks (he has cctv / lights).

Avoid wireless alarms, hard wired takes longer to install but is far better than wireless.

Some low cost wireless alarm systems use one way wireless communication. ( sensor to panel ) and the sensors only transmit when there is an alarm condition. With these systems the panel cannot verify that a sensor is inactive ( door closed ) when the alarm is being set. Hence the alarm can be set even though a door is open.

This was highlighted when a new door was fitted and the old door and it's alarm sensor were taken away to the tip. The alarm could still be set as normal even though it had lost one of its door sensors.

All decent wireless alarms now use 2 way technology so give the functionality of a wired system with the benefits of a wireless..
