Wondering if anyone could help...

Hi there, was just wondering if anyone on the forum could help me to finding a new job. Currently I am still working for my self but after something a little more permanent if possible. A little bit more about my self,

Currently I am 24 and based in Leicester. I have my own van + tools, ppe and everything needed. My driving licence is clean and I have held this for 7 years so far. I am a very competent plasterer as this was my main trade for 6 years. I did focus more on internal works than external. I can complete skimming, dot + dab, boarding, installing stud walls, float + set, basically everything internal to a high standard. I can render but will be honest and say I haven't done this to much (bungalows, sheds, garages etc are not a problem) i wouldn't feel confident taking on a full house on my own.

During my time plastering I was also involved in small building alterations, installing doorways + bricking them up, steels installed, slabbing, demolition and rip outs, things of this nature so I do have hands on experience in the building trade too. The maintenance side of things slowly came about around 3 years ago as I was getting asked more and more to do other jobs. I had a family member to give me a helping hand at the start (owned property maintenance firm for 50 years). I am now highly confident and can produce work in almost all trades to a high standard. I have been doing a lot of underground drainage repairs, some roofing works (working at hight is not a problem), carpentry, gutters + facia installs and general internal and external property repairs on domestic properties.

Also, getting up in the mornings and grafting is a priority of mine. Because I have been running my own business's I do know how important this is and my time keeping skills are up to scratch. I don't mine grafting longer some days to get jobs complete or working weekends either, I am hard working and reliable in all aspects. Working in all weather is no problem either, and im definitely not part of the Monday Club!

I do have a full CV if anyone would be interested in taking a look and references can be provided. I don't mind doing a trial day or week if needed if that's something you would be interested in doing. Money wise im not after the earth, just a fair wage for my experience and the type of work I would be carrying out thats paid on time.

Hi There ....in the first instance phone up people you've done work for asking them how they're going on and if they were happy with your work.

If it goes well ask them if they can send you a short text that you can use as a reference on a website ....assure them their name absolutely won't appear.

Get a small website and their references on it. Get your name out there a website can cost as little as £200 leaflet drop with your website details and a couple of references on it !

It's all about marketing.........anyway that's my advice .....don't pay for ads in print ! All the best ! If you need someone to design your website send me a private message and I can give you a number of someone.

Register with a job agency such as total jobs. You upload your CV to their site and things like what type of work you are after, where you want to work etc
You will then receive a phone call for a quick chat and you can explain what you want to do. After that you receive job alerts that you can apply for by whats called '1 Click Application' This sends your CV to the prospective employer and they then decide if they want to interview you. I semi retired in March and had 4 interviews lined up within a month. Got offered one of the jobs but the pay didn't justify the travelling I would have to do.

I cant see many full time PAYE jobs being available in plastering.

The vast majority of builders will either sub contract plastering or use a plasterer 'full time' under CIS.

I suppose there are maintenance or general trades jobs available, but the pay is likely to be much lower than you are used to.

If you are established, I wouldve thought plastering would be a full time, permanent trade with a ful, ordrr book.

Around here (Sussex), good plasterers are constantly fully booked out, all the time.

My advice would be to get yourself involved with a few good local builders -the ones that do one extension after another. If your work is good and you are reliable, you will have plenty of work.

Your better working for your self and having your eggs in lots of baskets. Just need to build up.

The building trade is massive at the moment, I’d drive around a few building sites speak to the foreman and introduce yourself. Leave him your card. Some would be crying out for plasterers. Good luck.

Heck Bodd !!!! Paying £35 a month !!!!!!! That's a rip off ! Once set up its pence if you do it right !

I think because I started a few years back it breaks down to less than £18 per month. I can change wording or photos free as much as I want. It works for me. Brings in a steady stream of work. Localy I'm 1st page of Google. Reviews help me stay on there.
