Hi folks,

Am living in the in the South-West of the ROI.

We had been letting a house for a number of years and the tenants moved out.
We moved back in, while our other house was being renovated.

We let the house to the tenants, I had installed a dish there pointing at the usual Astra Satellite for FTA channel. The tenants then installed a another satellite dish pointing south.

Any idea what this could be pointing at?

Thanks,

Ray K

Have you tried plugging the aerial in and seeing what reception you are getting ?

There are lots of satellites broadcasting other world language channels over Western Europe. If we take a 20 degree arc based on 10 degrees either way from due south, then there's roughly one satellite per degree. Have a look at https://www.dishpointer.com/ to get an idea of what's up there.

I know you're SW Eire, but I used a Cork postcode in the dishpointer site, then looked at satellites with 0-10W and 0-10E in the name e.g. 8W Eutelsat 8 West B. Once you've picked a satellite and hit search, the map should show a house location icon and a line pointing to the direction of the satellite. The line will be green if the signal can be received and red if it can't.

Once you know that the signal can be received, then a website such as http://en.satexpat.com/sat/west/8/ will list the channels available for that satellite. I've set this link up so you can see that the Eutelsat 8 West B is mostly Middle Eastern channels. The tabs on the site list the various satellites, so you can easily skip from one to the next. The listings show the channels, and whether they're HD or not and if they're encrypted.

It's probably easier though to think about your ex-tenants and whether they were non-natives looking for something familiar.

If this or any other reply was helpful to you, then do the decent thing and click the T-H-A-N-K-S button. It appears when you hover the mouse pointer near the Quote Multi-quote buttons. This is the proper way to show your thanks for the time and help someone gave you.
