I had a Whirlpool ACM 822 / NE induction hob installed over a year ago, with its supplied cable. The instructions are as follows:

Following an electrical inspection, the electrician has informed me that the supplied cable is not acceptable for the required load according to regs.

The hob is rated at 6500 W (electrical connection rating). It is on its own 32A MCB circuit. The cable is connected as above to the cutoff switch, and from there on standard electrical cable to the consumer unit.

I understand that the cable supplied is 2 x 2.5mm2 = 5mm2, and 6 mm2 is required. EDIT: My mistake, cable is 1.5mm2. Apologies.

The electrician has tried speaking to Whirlpool but got nowhere. Has anyone come across this before? Is there a solution? This hob is sold in the UK with this particular cable and was installed by the vendor as per the manufacturer's instructions, so I'm puzzled as to how this can be permitted.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks for replies. I was mistaken re cable size, which I believe is 1.5 mm2 not 2.5 mm2. Apologies, have amended original post. I'm not an electrician, and have probably misunderstood something, but I am being told that the cable supplied with the hob is not acceptable.

The EICR states:

C2
Hob load cable not adequatly protected. Cable is 1.5mm and protected by 32amp MCB. recommend upgrading cable to ensure proper protection against overloading cable.

The proposed remedy: Replacing current 1.5mm under sized cable supplying 32 amp hob to a 6mm cable which will be more satisfactory to electrical safety requirements.

Many appliances have 1.5 cable on 16 amp MCBs. Your hob has two each one feeding half the hob 3250 watts. Wirlpool are right, your sparks is wrong.

The hob cannot cause an overload.

Anyway, two 1.5mm² flexible cables - 16A each is 32A.

It's common for hobs to have 2 live wires, 2 neutral, 2 earths. as shown in the diagram.

I don't know if this is for cable flexibility or to allow more connections in europe. (or both)

There isn't a problem with overload, but there may be a problem for short circuit faults - the cpc is only 1.5mm² and may be undersized depending on the fault level at the appliance.

Another consideration is that cable damage could result in a short circuit fault that only involves one of the line conductors.
