Do I need to service my boiler?

Oh great!
Sorry to break that to you. The fan, gas valve, burner, and circuit board are all one part. They can't be purchased separately. As a result, if any single one of those goes wrong, you have to buy the whole lot. It's about £500 for the part, plus fitting and setup

Will servicing prevent all the items on that part from failing?
No, in much the same way as servicing a car won't prevent the ECU, fan, or fuel pump failing, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do what you can to maintain the parts which can be maintained

No, but not having it serviced will invalidate the warranty so if it does go wrong don't expect the manufacturer to foot the bill.

That's exactly what my thinking was. Your car goes wrong, say the ECU, you take it to the dealers, they say its not been serviced but can't tell you what could have been done in that service regarding maintenance that could have prevented the ECU from going wrong. Bit of a get out for both car and boiler manufacturers. Just have to look at it as part service/maintenance, part insurance I suppose.

Probably not but it would ( should ) detect things that are compromising proper combustion which could result in poor efficiency and excessive emmissions of CO2 CO and nitrogen oxides.

better get it serviced then!
Just need to clear the credit card bill first ...

Often a service will turn up leaking auto air vents, seals, pressure issues, before the leaks damage or corrode parts. The combustion levels will probably require tweaks to keep levels as designed, condensate traps need cleaning etc. The idea is to remedy the start of a problem before it becomes a problem.
