This isn't DIY, so apologies if this question is not suitable for this forum.

I've asked had a quote for a bedroom to be plastered.
Some cracks to be filled, levelling/buildup required in a few places where a dado rail was removed. PVA, bonding and skim. Surface is ready to go for plastering.

I was quoted that the job would take three days - one day for buildup and PVA, another day for bonding and another for skim. Charging for three days labour.

My Dad's friend is also a plasterer (in Ireland so not available to do the job for me) and he has told me I am being robbed at that quote, and it looks like one days work to him based on video of the room.

I've had a second quote (based on description only) which also said three days. I'm waiting on a third. They are unwilling to bond and skim on the same day, though I believe this is down to the preference of the tradesman.

Does three days sound unreasonable or is the advice coming from Ireland a bit off?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Brian

I had a similar size kitchen done in just over half a day. No levelling or cracks to be filled but still it sounds like a days work. He is probably going to do a couple hours a day and charge 3 full days.

Had a 3x5m kitchen completely plastered by one chap in less than a working day....

Can you fill the dado rail holes yourself? The cracks are normally covered with scrim tape and plastered over!

is the room empty ?
- upstairs work could mean stair carpet cover needed.

what do you mean by "surface ready for plastering"?
what kind of surface(s) - bare masonry, plasterboard?
what type of plaster?
walls and ceiling?
any window or doorway openings?
any wood trim or angle bead needed?

you mention two quotes - what were the prices for labour only or labour and materials?
many experienced plasterers only work 1 x 1 with a labourer.

Room will be empty - stripped wallpaper everywhere at the moment :)

Walls only. Room is upstairs. Laminate floor. Carpet on landing/stairs is being replaced after the job.
One window, one door, one wardrobe (built into alcove and doored) to be plastered internally (same surface as walls).

By surface ready for plastering I mean that the wallpaper is stripped, so it's back to bare plaster in most places. Old paint in large areas, but not flaking (I've been told this is ok to plaster over after PVA coats).
There are a few areas where the plaster has come away which need to be built up. Angle bead possibly needed for window reveal.
Where plaster has come away it looks like bare concrete wall - but I' not a good judge of that. Perhaps that is another type of plaster over brick? It's a 1900's mid terrace in Wales.

Prices quoted for labour only. Day rate of £120 - but from what I've been told by others, it should not be 3 full days work. Materials cost was under £50.

Do you mean a two man team?

Depends on price, rather than days. They might like to juggle a few jobs, giving time for things to dry out, maybe?
I had a similar room plastered, including over-boarding the ceiling, for £600. Honestly can't remember how long it took him. Might have been 2 days - first day preparing, boarding etc. and skimming ceiling, second day walls. I tihnk.

yes, a team of two.
you seem to be saying that you've got a bit of dubbing out, and after that the rest of the job is to simply take up suction and skim?
thats half a days work if you can find someone who does half days - most want a full days rate no matter the hours.
