Advice please.
I’ve knocked a kitchen and dining room wall down to create a good space.
At each end of th new room I have fitted new 3 gang switches (2way)
At both ends I have used 2 switches to control ceiling lights in 2 areas.
The third switch at each end are used as 1 ways. 1 controlling under cupboard lighting and the other as an isolator for an outside PIR light. All works well.

Now a decision from another person means I have to put dimmers in the 2 way circuits.

I can leave one set of switches as they are, but I’m not sure if I can get switch combination that will give me 2 dimmers and an on/off switch in one module?

I think I can use a grid type set up with correct modules, but I’m guessing I’ll need to use a bigger back box?

If I’m quick I can sort it out before plasterer arrives

Can someone with greater knowledge on kit advise please?

Cheers for reading

I've used MK grid systems on lighting with a 35mm box with no issues at all, with 2 switches and a dimmer. That was 2-gang though. If you have a 1-gang box, I don't think there is any way to get a 2x dimmers and a switch in! If the plasterer hasn't been, get your chisel out....!

Just grinding a new edge on it.....

Do I need a 35mm box or can I use a 25mm ?

Cheers

I'd not like to fit a pair of dimmer in a 25mm box tbh, could be a right faf to get the wiring to fit.... if it's even possible......

Did you obtain Building Regulations approval?

Are the cables running in safe zones?

Is/are the circuit(s) RCD protected?

All works well.
What testing did you do?

Does that person realise that if a light is turned on with a switch it will come on at whatever brightness the dimmer happens to be set to, and therefore if that isn't right they will have to walk to the dimmer switch and change it?

WOE did you ever use a 25mm box for anything?

There are alternative ways that give independent control at either end of the circuit.

But replacing one of a pair of 2-way switches with a dimmer is not one of them.

I was wondering how you would actually wire in dimmers into a 2 way circuit?

If you want to be able to control the dimming from each location you have to buy a pair of master-slave dimmers.
