roughly 3-400k prosecutions per year, for the last 15 years. roughly 1m uninsured vehicles. Annual insurance for a 17yo about £2-3k vs a £300 fine.

Even if the car has a number plate at all nowadays, there's no guarantee it is genuine.

I used to work with a PO who was also a plumber on his days off, he took work parties out from the local prison, doing stuff like gardening at local schools, don't know if this still happens though

Ah, I get what you are saying now.

Insurance becomes even more expensive (and for the next 5 years) once an IN10 conviction is on ones license.

I used to take my old man's sports car when he was off on fishing trips. Never knew about it until years after. Was never insured and at the time never thought it was that bigger deal if was caught back then very irresponsible I know.
