Hi, been on here before about my 95 year old mother's microwave which tends to be abused fairly regularly.

Latest situation is a burning smell and signs of burning on one of the inside walls of the microwave. Any ideas please, thanks.

If food splashes are burning on the "window" where the waves come through, they can burn a hole in it, so clean it thoroughly. It is not difficult to fit a replacement window, but it is an expense you can avoid.

You can get microwave-safe "hats" to put over the dish or plate to prevent splashes escaping, so the inside of the oven stays cleaner.

Thanks for your comments, I don't think that it's burnt food on the side wall of the microwave, I think that this is where the magnatron is situated, looks like some air vents there. If a microwave was turned on without anything inside would that create the burning?

Got it in one, I think, having had identical problems with my elderly father before he died......emphatically denying such a deed, of course!

Best I found was a microwave pressure cooker it is really good with bags of veg as they do not scrape sides of microwave and it even cooks slightly faster. But also it can go in dishwasher after.

I have wondered about plastic containers inside microwave for other items to catch food fired out as water boils.
