Foreign government plots to overthrow British democracy

We can have blue passports. Just like we can in the EU. We can use the Pound. Just like we can in the EU. We can check people's passports at the border, and require foreign workers to register, just like we can in the EU but we don't bother.

We can recruit thousands more Customs Officers and Immigration officials (by the way, how many have we taken on and started training, ready for 31st October? None, you say? Not even recruitment ads in the papers? Tsk tsk.)

My decision that leaving the EU was the better option was based on experience of how the EU operates and the effects it has on many aspects of life and commerce both in the UK and in the countries of main land Europe

Well I voted leave, in part due to concerns over federalism, increasing EU power with a corresponding loss of sovereignty in nation states.

Theres a bit of truth to it.

However ditching the EU and 759 trade agreements with 40 odd years of integration, to start from scratch is economic madness.

I used to think the EU was undemocratic, but then realised they have allowed Farage to be an MEP for years

Id def vote remain in a 2nd ref.

"“Parliament is practically closed and the MPs are mainly absorbed in questions of the Tory party leadership and the name of the next prime minister”."

Yep.

Glad to see the Cons are not wasting the time granted as an extension to the leave date so they could sort out their Omnishambles.

ooops

Yes they are.

I have not done a survey.

I have not seen anything on the news to indicate that they would want to leave. They are part of Europe, a concept hard to understand for brexiters. I suppose you might say they are a net beneficiary so they wouldn't.

There doesn't appear to be a Portuguese Farage, jingoistic wishes to rule the world again nor dislike of foreigners. Yes, I know you and everyone who appears on Question Time do not feel like that - but millions do.

What is the consensus in Portugal regarding Brexit, and the eu in particular ? Are the Portuguese happy to be in the eu and do you think they would consider leaving if offered a chance to ?
"Portugal is one of the countries where the past years of crisis have not led to political turmoil and a rise of populist forces. And the country itself is quite confident about its overall EU commitment."

"Unlike some European nations, who are trying to reduce the influx of migrants, Portugal is bucking the trend by looking to immigration as a way to counter its declining indigenous population...

We need more immigration and we won't tolerate any xenophobic rhetoric,"

A quitter I guess has to get used to grasping at straws, because ignorance is a common trait amongst that particular cult

I was only asking as you live there, and maybe things crop up in conversation. We hear all sorts of second hand news, and thought the real feeling of another country's population could be expressed by someone actually living there, but ellal obviously knows better.

We hear all sorts of second hand news
Everyone I speak to when abroad (Alpine destinations), mentions Brexit. The Gerries and the Dutch think were slightly bonkers and none can get their heads around why we would want to leave.
It's amusing that, when you are in say an outdoor eating place and people overhear that you are British, many will bring up the subject of Brexit. A lot seem to be fascinated/curious.

There you are ,Brexit is creating jobs already.

Removal of Human Rights, like Theresa promised. Pesky citizens have it too easy these days, having rights. A return to the days of the British Subject, rather than the citizen.

Continued bonfires of regulation. As Cameron said, they're a drag on companies doing what they want. Think of the money that can be saved by wrapping blocks of flats in combustible material instead of expensive fireproofing.

Cutting standards. We can make products that fall short of EU standards if we want. Of course, we won't be able to export them. We'll be able to sign treaties with Trumpland agreeing to accept their standards instead.
Does that that mean no more horsemeat Lasagna or Romanian pickpockets from Europe, I am shocked.
