Good idea with the neon, that would save confusion.
They/you would if they want the fan on.Trouble is people wouldn't turn the light on if it's already light in there.
Thanks, Harry. I was just about to suggest that solution! The fan I installed in my bathroom doesn't trigger from the light at all, it is triggered by PIR as you walk in, or by humidity. Once triggered is runs for a preset minimum period, which I set to 20 minutes, or until it no longer 'sees' anyone, or until the humidity declines.
why will they remember to pull a cord for a fan ?

I think you are inventing a problem where there is none - apart from the people involved.
Do you have anything on your TV, or living room light, to ensure it goes off when people forget and leave it on when they go to bed?
Just realised I left the car running when I parked it on Tuesday.
No I am not inventing a problem. I know through EXPERIENCE that the fan gets left on. I don't want it to left running and that is why I asked for help. Fans can be left on fior hours and I want mine to turn off - simples! I wasn't born yesterday pal. I think the question is quite reasonable so I can do without the sarcasm thanks.
I don't think EFLI was being particularly sarcastic, he was just simply trying to point out maybe the situation isn't as desperate as it may seem. I'm not sure I care for some of the aggression hinted at it your post.
I don't think you read my comment properly. There is already light in the room so why would they turn a light on? If they stank the room out then they would look for a fan wouldn't they? I am beginning to wish I'd never asked. If they won't pull a cord for a light, why will they remember to pull a cord for a fan ?
