Can someone help I've had a look at my light pendant and the cables seem to be going in separate directions? Thanks

Looks like an old grip conduit, conduit box, with what looks like 3.029 red and black going into box, from different entries.

Basically I wanted to run new t&e cable between the lights and switches as its old wiring so wasn't sure what to do with that particular pendant

Why? Old wiring in itself is no reason to replace it. It is not rubber and falling to bits is it?

There is no earth wires was going to run just earth between fitting but apparently I would be better running t&e?

IF the conduit is continuous and IF it is well-attached to a good earth at the supply, AND you have a good screw connection to the conduit at the fitting, then you could attach an earth wire to that screw.

But these are big IF's and the impedance of the earth connection is best tested by specialist equipment.

I’m gonna guess the conduct has been cut off So no earth path.

I would hope with the use of unsheathed singles, that it has not been cut off, but if I am correct in my assumption - that it is grip conduit, grip conduit was never reliable in providing a low impedance earth path.

Grip conduit was often cut off with the under plaster drops reused for twin and earth, to avoid the need for replastering.

When people install single wires in conduit they are likely to do it differently to twin and Earth.

The example that comes to mind is 2 way switched lighting.

The black neutrals may go from light to light.
You may get one red live (on its own) returning from the switch to power the light

Have you purchased some twin and earth cable?
