My lad has just got a vehicle. It's tax is due 1st June.
The date of acquisition on the log book is today.
The car is still on the driveway and will not move until tax and insurance is in place.
Because of the short discrepancy in sale date and tax due date, should it be SORNed before taxing and insuring?

Yes! But it's not what you think. We haven't made a choice, the car was offered to us. But back to the topic! Are you saying I should SORN it for the day?

Turns out I can't SORN it, as the DVLA have not received notification of transfer from the previous owner. I have to wait to receive the new V5, by which time I will have taxed it (on 1 June), so there will be no need to SORN it..... yet by law, the car needs either taxing or SORNing....

The answer, for anyone viewing this in the future (assuming the rules are the same!) is that you cannot tax the vehicle in one month to start the next.

If you buy a car and tax it on (eg) the 15th, then you will pay tax for that month AND so will the owner, as they don't get part months back.

You would think in these technologically enlightened days that DVLA could handle a daily RFL scheme, but no. Another way the Govt rips us all off.
