Football

I was in a pub where the tv was showing an England cricket one day international.

About twenty minutes before the end of the game the channel was changed to watch (no sound) some people talking about football.

Ah well, a pub near me has about 15 screens, I know, it's not really my kind of establishment, but there's always a variety of sport being shown. Pub wise I prefer an open fired country one, but that's coz I'm an old fart.

Anyhow, back to the original point, I think, of this thread, I've enjoyed the women's world cup so far, sure it's a slower pace than the men's game, but nevertheless it's been good to watch.

Some of the girls are really good. I've enjoyed what I've seen too.

Not at all: I'm 29 and can't stand sports pubs. I'm a big fan of my local team Derby County and I go to most games, but for me the idea of sitting down in a pub full of Carling drinkers watching 10 different 50" TVs makes me shudder.

Much prefer to go to the local (which brews its own beer), sup some ales and enjoy an evening or afternoon there after a long walk.

As for women's football, I think women should be given every opportunity to play it just as men should -- there should be no barriers.

That said, women are not the same biologically or physically as men and they could not compete with them. Many women also choose not to play football which again is fine, hence the focus being on men's football where most of the action is.

You can still watch it and enjoy it though.

I love going down the pub to watch Chelsea. I have no interest in going these days apart ftom doing an appearance hear and there.
Some take it so serious still.

They'd have to given the prices for season tickets these days!

Guess it's just preference. I like pubs for the beer, the conversations and the bands -- TVs don't mix in with that for me.

My main bug bear in womens football is women commentators (which there seems to be more of in women's football) I really can't be bothered with any shouty pseudo excited sports commentary, but when it's a women it just goes shrill and high pitched and seems 10x worse.

As for the football, it's alright, tactically and skill levels are as good but as expected just seems to lack the power and speed - may be as women are 10 to 15% smaller than men then the pitches should be similarly reduced in size ?

If the England team were dropped into the footbll league I wonder where they would settle ? (old 4th or sunday league) probably beat Sunderland though - LOL

Anyway, I will be watching and cheering alonng the night (except if the commentators voice gets too shrill)

And NO, I don't have a problem with women presenters, in general I far far prefer them, much better than men - but sports commentary - a big NO from me.

Me to. I only like a TV if Chelsea are on. Prefer no music, if not just background.

Now I am confused now.. these rules seem odd.. (Nigeria vs Germany) ???
