As most people have probably heard there had been protests over the controversial LGBT lessons in primary schools.

As someone who vehemently disagrees with these lessons as I find them very concerning especially at such a young age and it appears a lot of people (even non religious) believe that the new lessons are inappropriate. I saw on the campaign leaders social media some of the books on LGBT issues and they are worse than I thought.

I also find it very worrying that any MP or government worker who agrees with those who oppose the lessons is threatened with being fired. This is the beginning of a very dangerous trend that jeopardizes free speech and so called “hate speech” laws could be used to further oppress people’s opinions. The MPs job is to represent his constituents in parliament and give them a voice and when they do their threatened with dismissal. We all have the right to petition to government for a redress of grievances however if politicians become afraid to support their constituents and people become afraid to voice their concerns it could mark the end of freedom of speech and religion and the beginning of a dictatorship.

I understand that this may be a sensitive topic and would appreciate if we can remain respectful and in compliance with forum rules

There is a dilemma. On the one hand it is right in a modern society that people can choose to be LGBT+ (easier to say non-heterosexual now?) without being alienated in society. On the other I have a real issue with any pre-pubescent child declaring themselves in the above category.

We are animals fuelled by chemistry. The opposite sex is just annoying and different, until the chemistry, pushing us to procreate kicks in.

For me, awareness is fine, recruitment isn't. Primary school kids aren't ready.

people can choose to be LGBT+

That's one way of looking at it.

Let's suppose, for the sake of argument, that you are heterosexual.

When did you make that choice?

Was it because you thought it would be good for your career?

If nobody at school had told you it existed, what do you think you would have chosen instead?

On one hand I find it ironic the Muslim community are leading this one of the protesters commented:

"They want to convert you, they want to convert your morality and that's just wrong."

Hang on what does becoming a Muslim require you to do? Which is as real as any other religion/father Xmas. For that I think they need to butt out and be grateful we are already tolerant and allow their way of life here.

At least being gay or whatever is actually real. Hello??

On the other hand I'm finding it annoying one of my daughter's is already subjected to alot of this education and awareness and on the back of it in her school everyone is now either bi trans etc with anxiety and a bit of depression thrown in.

There are more important issues out there. How about teaching them all about life saving. The fundamentals of how to safe another person's life not who is possibly a bender and why. I completely get how unfortunate it can be for someone to be born in the wrong body and no you can't change them!

Anyway.. I say give them one lesson like they do SE not a whole curriculum.

These lessons are to inform the children that not all relationships are ‘mommy and daddy’ they are not teaching them the physical aspect of any relationships.
The situation in Birmingham has got out of hand, with daily protests, intimidation, the school closing early, death threats and court injunction.
You don’t choose to be gay, I didn’t.

We hear of so much openly hostile behaviour against people who aren't the 'norm'. Sexuality, religious beliefs, colour of our skin, the way we vote, our views - all these are targets to abuse, sometimes physical. Heck, see enough abuse and insults even on here towards those who have different views!

I am all for teaching children that people are different and it should be accepted without a blink of an eye. If we have to start them off young to make future generations less of a bastard then so be it.

Disagree the reason they are bastards now is they are pandered too much imho.

Back in my day for example my PE teacher lined us all up.. Too fat too thin etc. He proceeded to teach us to keep fit to train to be healthy. He was strict anyone disobeyed got a cracking skull peck and it was hard first thing in the morning
But he was the most respected teacher in the school and I know anyone now in my school years would concur. He taught me alot I am eternally thankful for. No.1 was to show respect to him and others.
Teachers have no such powers now.

Being gay is nature and as you say isnt a choice.

Many women suffer terrible repression due to religions like Muslim and they dont have a choice -but that is imposed by other humans.

Its a funny old world.

In terms of LGBT and primary school education -Its a very nuanced argument. Children should grow up understanding there is a spectrum of sexuality. However young children should still be allowed to be children we should be sensitive to keeping it understated.

It isnt easy to get it right, perhaps as a nation we should be pleased we are able to discuss it freely. Lets not forget homosexuality was illegal before 1967. In some US states 2003.

I dont think all this current craze with gender pronouns and how children should be raised as neither boy or girl is helpful. We should focus on being tolerant to those who have been born in the wrong body.

Theres a middle aged guy who lives in my street, a months back he started to dressed as a woman - I see her pop down the local shop. My guess is that person probably wouldnt have had the confidence to do that a few years back. It must be scary, that first time leaving the house......
