We have a cat, which whilst I'm generally a cat lover we don't really get on.

But every opportunity he has, he takes to sleep in my chair, or part of the sofa, or my clothing.

So, do you think he loves the security, wants to obliterate any part of my scent.

(it's probably the latter, as I like to give him a gentle kick up the nudge up the arris from time to time.)

Seems like he really loves you and is making do with substitutes because he knows the only contact he gets from you is the nudges, or -

he's a cat, that's what they do.



Get a cardboard box and pretend it's yours.
 
Why don't you get on? How can anyone not get on with their pet? What does it do that annoys you so much?

Sounds to me that he likes you and likes your smell. Cats are fussy where they sleep and like to feel secure.

Coz he's a greedy, dirty tw*t who thinks nothing of walking up to you and taking an unprovoked swipe at you. Arse! Plus he peed in my shoes and work bag.
 
Peeing in your shoe and bag is a marking issues sounds like the cat doesn’t have enough places in the house to call it’s own. Does it have its own bed, cat tree or similar ?

Yeah, all of those plus the entire run of a whole, unoccupied, floor of the house. Trust me, he just an arse.

Is it an outdoor cat? Peeing indoors can be a sign that all is not well outside and it's marking it's territory as there's other cats around. We had a cat who always peed on the kitchen bin, which was right next to the catflap. Nothing stopped it, I tried everything, bowls of biccies by the bin, placing his fav scratchbox in front of the bin, he just peed against that instead so I resigned myself to the fact we had to clean it every day and occasionally replace the bin.

If it's an indoor cat, peeing outside of a little box can be a sign of illness and stress.

Does he have the same behavioural issues with anyone else in the house? If you shout at him regularly, or kick him up the arse regularly then it could be you that's the cause of the stress and the aggression.
 
He's an indoor cat, I've been told to inform all that the peeing incident was actually when he wasn't well after his dry biscuit diet, now swapped to wet food, however he still has a very annoying toilet habit of sitting in his litter tray and hanging his butt over the side and dumping all over the floor, then shovelling the litter over it. Oh and he, deliberately tripped me over at the top of the stairs once.

He also snores like a train, eats like a pig and licks himself in the most disgusting way.

Did he have a UTI? Yeah, dry food isn't good as the whole diet unless the cat is a big drinker. Sounds like a bad habit has formed with the litter, or he's still poorly and/or stressed. Indoor cats also like a litter tray each (if you've more than one cat).

Indoor cats, although safe, can be very unhappy cats btw unless a lot of entertainment and mental stimulation which doesn't happen with people out to work all day. Outdoors, although risky with cars etc, get to use their brains all day long, assessing situations, smells etc. If a multicat household then it's been proven that indoor cats suffer quite a lot as cats like to be, on a whole, the only cat in the house and if they can't get away then it becomes a rotten situation. My late cat, who we took on at 5 years old, was vicious and a mean old git to it's owner and it's housemates as an indoor cat. We took him on, gave him his freedom and it was a 100% turnaround. Ended up being a very happy, content and quiet cat, though he never did get on with any neighbourhood cats and had a few scraps over the 6 years we had him before he passed away with heart failure.

Try being kind to your cat, stop shouting, play some with him and make friends - I bet things improve.
 
Could I be right in thinking Diane trained him? Especially the tripping down the stairs trick! :LOL::LOL::LOL:

Yes it was a UTI, I don't shout at him, just call him a fat bas***rd etc. play with him? Are you insane! it would like playing with a chainsaw. As for letting him out, I'm all for it... on a permanent basis.

Let him out then! Most pets behaviour can be improved, perhaps that's what he needs rather than being stuck indoors all day with f-all to do.
 
I'm not allowed to. Anyhow he's not alone all day at the moment, I around all day, we stare at each other in mutual disgust.
