Hi all, I have an ideal Mini C24 HE that has had a problem with the pressure switch,
I thought it would make sense to get it serviced while it is apart and also replace a leaky filler loop while they are there.

The quote for the service and filler loop with part included is £125 (it doesnt required the system to be drained to change it)

He will fit a pressure switch that I will supply for an extra £25 labour so £150 altogether.

Can someone in the trade please let me know if this quote sounds reasonable? From the schematics it looks like the switch is only held on by 2 screws and a push fit pipe so the additional amount seems a little excessive?

Thank you.

Hello TR123,

The price all depends on where you are in the country for labour. Materials can also vary depending on where they are obtained from. The price seems reasonable to me, however if you’re unhappy then obtain more quotes.

Who do you think should offer the 12 month warranty on the part you supply, engineer fits?.. Seems perfectly reasonable price to me.

Thanks for the replies. I'm based in Essex.

He suggested I buy the switch from an online link he was going to supply, so I'm assuming he won't cover it? I hadn't thought of that.

Honestly that is on the cheaper side.

Its not simply a case of changing a part. Its knowing what part to change, which requires investigation which takes time. Before you do any of that you need to be qualified to work on boilers which can take several years and thousands of pounds in costs, then once qualified you need to be gas safe registered, registration costs hundreds a year, you tjen need trade i surance, for a service you need the FGA (Gas Analyser kit) costing around £700, which then needs to be calibrated every year to be legal which costs another £100, you then have the cost of fuel to get to your job, you then have the wear and tear on the car/van, you then have the business vehicle insurance to drive that vehicle for work use, you then have the VAT/Tax you need to pay out of what you have just earnt..

....so as you can see being a Gas Safe registered engineer, to be allowed to legally work on gas appliances, is very expensive. We have to factor all this into our prices.

So £150 for a service AND repair is pretty cheap.
