BCO visit

Hi, I posted this in the regs forum, but thought I'd get the perspective from here in case different people see it.

Applied for inspection for a load bearing wall removal, conversion to a vaulted ceiling and insertion of a French door (named work on building notice)

Will be moving kitchen into the opened up area, and so far, 2 inspections down and inspector happy.

With a new ceiling I'm installing new lights, and a selection of sockets, both extensions of existing circuits. This was not included on the building notice.

Given they are not notifiable, but the inspector is likely to spot them, would he require a MWC or EIC? I'm not able to test the circuits, so would an EICR be a suitable alternative?

There is notifiable work that's going to be done (new cooker circuit) but planning on getting an electrician in who can self cert.

I've asked a few people, and the answers have ranged from "BCO won't be bothered as it's non notifiable" to "lie" to "you will have to rip it all out and get it done by a registered spark" with a couple of people saying an EICR or periodic inspection on the affected circuits will suffice.

What do people think the most likely scenario is, or does it depend on the individual BCO?

It's really up to what the BCO will accept. You will have to ask them.

An EICR seems extreme for a few sockets & lights.

Can you ask the Electrician who does the kitchen to test the ZS at the new sockets along with it's RCD/RCBO and Lighting

We just had the CU replaced and an EICR done for the house, so I'm pretty sure if was safe before I started, so I would confine the rice to just the circuits I've worked on

So You have a Very Recent Certificate so can't you say you had sockets added at the time ? Or have they already seen the new work. If they haven't they'd be none the wiser.

Unfortunately he has already been round. To be fair there was no chasing at that point, but I'm sure he will twig that they are new. Esp the lights, as it was bare rafters when he was last there!

In case anyone finds this useful, the BCO only requires the EIC/MWC for the new circuit. He was happy with my diy efforts.
